Jeff Knapp of our team visited the “Licensing Jungle,” which is an ongoing podcast series by Carmine Denesco and Jeffrey A. Mangus about patent and licensing issues. In his podcast Jeff talked to Carmine about his background as a Patent Agent and former Patent Examiner. He also provided some general guidance for those considering pursuing patent protection. Collen’s skill set is vast. She has a law degree from Emory University and a Master’s of Science in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology.  Collen is a member of the Georgia Bar and admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.   During Collen’s 20+ year career in the technology and legal fields, she has been engaged in invention and design clearance, patent application drafting and prosecution, patent portfolio management, trademark clearance and registration, opinion work, licensing, competitor evaluations, and business strategies. Collen’s business experiences give her a vast array of knowledge to share with her clients.  Collen has owned and managed her own solo practice and has worked at start-up companies both as a scientist and an attorney.  She also has managed patent portfolios for Fortune 500 companies.  She has also served as general counsel and in-house counsel on several occasions.

Community responsibility and causes for humanity are also extremely important to Collen. In 2016, Collen took her skills to serve as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Guanajuato, Mexico.  She helped one of Mexico’s CINVESTAV research institutes develop a technology transfer office and provided advice on intellectual property.

AdventIP OwnersAdvent is pleased to announce the addition of Rebecca Bortolotti as a co-owner and partner of Advent, LLP.  “This is an extremely exciting time for the future growth of Advent,” said Kevin West co-owner.  “Rebecca brings a great depth of knowledge in all areas of business and strategic innovation,” added Ryan Grace co-owner.

Rebecca’s practice will focus on a holistic approach to competitive insulation that maximizes the benefits and impact of research, innovation, and technology of her clients.  She also brings a breadth of in-house experience to support the transactional and operational needs of her clients.  A portion of her practice will be dedicated to providing strategic legal guidance as outside General Counsel.

Prior to joining Advent, Rebecca was Vice President and Chief Technology Counsel at ConAgra Brands, Inc. (formerly ConAgra Foods, Inc.), a Fortune 500 company.  Over her nearly 10 years with ConAgra, Rebecca supported all aspects of the company strategies including: organizational redesign, technology and innovation-related matters; patent prosecution and litigation; mergers & acquisitions; divestitures; spin-outs; licensing; strategic relationships; privacy and data security initiatives; and supply chain support including manufacturing and procurement.  Prior to ConAgra, Rebecca was an attorney with a national intellectual property law firm.  Her practice there focused on complex litigation and client counseling of all matters related to intellectual property.  Rebecca also served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Lyle E. Strom, Senior U.S. District Court Judge. Rebecca was an adjunct professor at Creighton University School of Law, where she taught Legal Writing and Trademark Law. She was also an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law, teaching Patent Litigation. Rebecca is admitted to the Nebraska and Minnesota bars, and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
