Jeff Knapp

Patent Agent

Jeff is a registered patent agent with over 25 years of patent experience, joining Advent in 2017.  He was a Patent Examiner for the US Patent and Trademark Office for over eight years before becoming a patent agent.  As a patent agent, Jeff started out working for a couple of boutique law firms, before transitioning into corporate practice.  In his various corporate roles, Jeff has worked on patent prosecution and drafting, patent portfolio management, counseling of inventors and business leaders, prior art searching, clearance support activities, outside counsel oversight, and training and mentoring of junior patent engineers.  Jeff particularly enjoys guiding inventors and clients through the sometimes seemingly arcane patent process.

At Advent, Jeff focuses primarily on patent drafting, prosecution, searching, and prior art analysis. Jeff’s academic background is in Ceramic Engineering (holding both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees therein), but he has worked in a variety of technologies while in patents.  Those technologies have ranged from materials science, general electrical and mechanical, heavy machinery, and medical.  Jeff holds a pair of US patents, both for gas turbine engine technology.
