National Popcorn Day Patent
Happy Popcorn Day!
January 19th is National Popcorn Day! Regardless of whether you are team savory or team sweet, popcorn is one of our all-time favorite snacks. This classic treat brings memories of movie nights and fairs but inventors Williams, DeSmidt and Lindeman wanted the popcorn experience to be more interactive for fans of all ages.
US Patent 7,722,049 is a multipurpose bowl that includes fun and practical additions to the well-known popcorn bucket. The invention includes several compartments for different small objects such as napkins, drinks, and crayons, but the main attractions are a target in the shape of a basket hoop and a popcorn launcher to practice your aim.
Depending on your popcorn preference, the force needed to reach the target and score a three-pointer will vary: caramel corn is much heavier than a classic butter-flavored and the target may be moved around the bowl. We don’t usually suggest playing with your food, but with this fun invention, how could you not enjoy it?
